Indentation Tool Panel

The Indentation tool panel allows you to reformat blocks text in the edit pane so that the indentation is uniform. Once you have adjusted the formatting controls to your preference, click the Apply button and the text block in the edit pane will be formatted. The formatting controls consist of :

The indentation character radio buttons allow you to select the character that is to be inserted at the left margin when quote blocks are being reformatted. Selecting the Other chars button allows you to select any character you desire; however, selecting a character other than a '>' or a space will make it difficult to reformat the quoted block more than once.

The indentation depth scroll bars allow you specify how many indentation characters to insert at the left margin. The Depth scroll bar will be automatically adjusted to the greatest number of '>'s in the selected text block when you release the mouse button after selecting text. Note: if you're cleaning a message that has non-standard indentation characters (e.g. '#', ':', '|', etc..), you need to replace them with '>'s with the Search | Replace Text menu item before reformatting message blocks. The Right and Left pad scroll bars specify the number of spaces (if any) to pad around the indentation character string. If the indentation character depth is zero, the right and left padding is ignored.

The Preserve Blank Lines check box is identical to the check box with the same name on the Word Wrap Tool Panel. When this option is checked, blank lines between paragraphs are preserved. When this option is not checked, blank lines are eliminated during the word wrap reformatting.

Example 1 : Preserve Blank Lines checked.

>> Clinton was selected as a Rhodes
>> Scholar which speaks to his

Example 2 : Preserve Blank Lines not checked.

>> Joe wrote: Clinton was selected as a
>> Rhodes Scholar which speaks to his

>> Quote #2

>>> Quote #3

Example 2 : Insert Blank Line checked.
